Headhunters' Secrets Unveiled: An Inside Look at How We Track You Down.

Updated: Mar 11

As a hi-tech job seeker, LinkedIn can be a valuable tool for connecting with headhunters and finding new job opportunities. However, as a headhunter with over 15 years of experience, I often come across candidates who are confused about how I found them and have little understanding of how headhunters use LinkedIn's "Recruiter" tool to reach potential candidates.

To help shed light on this process, I thought it would be beneficial to provide a behind-the-scenes look at how headhunters use LinkedIn and what job seekers can do to increase their chances of being noticed. This is especially important in today's job market where competition for jobs is fierce. By being aware of the process and taking steps to improve your LinkedIn profile, you can increase your chances of finding the right job for you, more quickly.

First and foremost, it's important to have a strong LinkedIn profile that highlights your skills and experience. Of course, you may always contact us if you feel you could use a little professional touch!

Headhunters and recruiters often use LinkedIn Recruiter, a premium tool that allows us to search for and contact potential candidates, outside our LinkedIn network. It also allows us to collaborate with hiring managers and other recruiters on the same account to share notes and feedback.

The first step when we set out to fill a new position, is to use LinkedIn Recruiter to help us find candidates that match our client's requirements, using various filters and keywords. These include job title, location, skills, and more. A good headhunter never reveals their professional search secrets… and I consider myself one. Then we view the candidates' profiles and activity, in order to assess their qualifications and fit for the job. We reach out to suitable candidates, that we consider a good fit, by sending them an InMail directly through LinkedIn Recruiter, and await your response.

As a job seeker, it's important to make sure that your LinkedIn profile is visible to recruiters, which means having a public profile and keeping your contact information up-to-date. Another way to increase your visibility to headhunters is to actively engage with others in your industry on LinkedIn. This includes joining relevant groups, participating in discussions, and sharing valuable content. This can help you build your professional network and increase your visibility to headhunters who are searching for candidates in your field.

Another tip is to keep an eye on your LinkedIn inbox. When you receive an InMail from a recruiter, it's important to respond promptly and professionally. Even if the opportunity isn't a good fit for you, it's important to maintain a positive relationship, as we may have other opportunities in the future that align more closely with your career goals.

Another thing to remember when you receive an InMail from a headhunter is to be aware that we are representing the company we are recruiting for. This means that often, at this early stage, we are not able to disclose much information or disclose the name of the company we are recruiting for. If you accept our initial reach-out, we’ll follow up with a phone call to provide you with all the missing details.

It's also important to remember that not all headhunters are legitimate, so be sure to research the headhunters that contact you (that includes us! We want you to browse our website!). you should also research the company represented by the headhunter before sharing any personal information.

Finally, it's important to be proactive in your job search. This means reaching out to headhunters and recruiters, rather than just waiting for them to reach out to you. You are welcome to do this by sending a personalized InMail or connecting with us on LinkedIn and asking about any current or upcoming job opportunities. We are always here for you!

I hope that by sharing this information, you now have a better understanding of the processes and methods used by headhunters in their candidate search. By following the tips I mentioned above, you can increase your chances of being noticed by headhunters like us, and finding great job opportunities.
